Thomas Wins WCL Player of the Week Award

SPRINGFIELD — On Monday, the West Coast League announced that Springfield Drifters outfielder Evan Thomas has been named the Baker Tilly Player of the Week for July 28-August 2.

Thomas, who redshirted this past season at UC Santa Barbara, had a dominant week at the dish. Across five games against the Yakima Valley Pippins and Ridgefield Raptors, Thomas went 9-for-21 (.429) with three triples, one double, and 13 RBIs. The Fallbrook, California native also walked four times for a .520 OBP and scored six runs. His performance on the week also etched his name in the Springfield Drifters record books, breaking the team's franchise and single-season records for triples with 3 games remaining.

On the season, Thomas is hitting .342 and is slugging .566 with eight doubles, three triples and one home run. Thomas’s .342 average leads the team among players who have started at least 20 games, and his 25 RBI’s on the summer are third behind Cooper Mullens and Nolan Miller. Thomas has also provided excellent defense in the outfield with no errors committed in 38 attempts. 

The Drifters host the Bend Elks for their final three games of the 2026 regular season August 3-5. On Monday, the Drifters will host their first-ever “Augtober Fest,” presented by Falling Sky Brewing. Several craft breweries will offer tastings with the purchase of a specialty drink ticket. On Tuesday, the Drifters are partnering with The Hope Project for Back to School Night. Students in attendance will receive a free backpack with school supplies to get ready to go back to school. The Drifters will finish the regular season on Wednesday with half-off tickets, concessions and select merchandise all game long for Fan Appreciation Night.
